How to Make a Deco Mesh Valentine Wreath

In today’s video, we’re creating a Deco Mesh Valentine Wreath for Your door.  Deco Mesh is still super popular and I like it because it adds a BIG fun punch of color and whimsy to your door.  Seriously, this wreath will be seen from down the street and you will be the envy of your neighbors with this hanging on your door. Here’s how to make it:

  • Prepare your wreath form if needed. Very rarely, the twist ties are not tight and you have to use needle nose pliers and hot glue to secure them in place.
  • Secure the deco mesh into the needle ties and measure out 10″ long loops to secure to the next set of needle ties.  Make sure to pleat the mesh before putting into the needle ties.
  • I prefer to work with the inner ring first and then the outer ring.
  • Once I’ve attached the deco mesh to the inner ring, I create a ‘bridge’ by pulling it tight to the outer ring and securing.
  • I measure out 10″ long loops and secure it in each needle tie on the outer ring.
  • Once I’ve gone all the way around the wreath, I then go back and do the same thing on the outer ring but this time, I don’t measure but use enough mesh to fill in any gaps between the inner and outer ring.  I untwist the outer ring need ties and place more mesh inside and twist them back again.
  • Attach the sign using florist wire. This sign had wire already on the back and used that to secure my florist wire.  Center the sign in the middle of the wreath.  I use the sign to help me choose which colors to use for the ribbon. If you need help choosing colors for your wreaths, you have to read this.
  • Cut ribbon streamers with each ribbon pattern 13″ long and then dove tail the ends to give a finished look.
  • Match a set of ribbon streamers and place inside each needle tie. You can choose to untwist them if needed but it’s not necessary. Alternate the ribbon going around the entire wreath. You can find another video on using ribbon streamers with deco mesh HERE.
  • Add a wreath hanger using a pipe cleaner.
  • Pierce the 4″ ornaments with an awl and feed a pipe cleaner into the center. I do this so that I can wire the ornament onto the wreath. Wire these ornaments in-between the mesh of the inner and outer ring on the crossbars of the metal frame (not the mesh).  You can then move the mesh around the ornament to give a nestled appearance.
  • Use the 2″ ornament ties and secure them in every other needle tie on the outer ring.  You can also add two sets on the inner ring.
  • Move the mesh behind the sign so that you can see the heart shape.

Hi Julie, my name is Darlene Brown. I live in Rossville, GA. I am a dialysis tech. I have been following Trendy Tree and started blogging with her about my desire to get into wreath making. She gave me your link. I love all your videos?‼️ I have so many questions. Scard of failing at something that I am new in. At the end of September of this year, I will not be reknewing my dialysis lisc. My husband and I plan to foster children and I wanted to make wreaths on the side as well. I feel like I am still learning to make different ones before I sell. I don’t know how to get started when we do not have a lot of money or space to do them. I make them in my living room right now. I really want this to work because it is so much fun. All my friends love the ones I do. Need advice. I believe you have something I can sign up and pay monthly for to learn from you. I will probably sign up sometime this Spring. We are about to pay a huge amount of debt off. At that point that will free things up.

What did you attach the middle layer to? The one you said to keep shorter just to fill in. That wasn’t quite clear to me. Thanks! This wreath is beautiful, simply beautiful.
