How to make a Christmas arrangement using scraps

1. Prepare your base

Start with your glass vase, measuring a wide green ribbon around it. Trim the ribbon to size, then slip it inside the vase; this will disguise our stems.

Next, fill the vase with florist foam. Add a piece of duct tape to the bottom of the vase, then hot glue the foam to the tape. This way, you can reuse the vase for future projects.

If you’re working with smaller scraps, you can stack them, securing them together with a wooden floral pick.

2. Add focal florals

For florals, I started with two large yellow-green blooms, inserted on opposite sides of the design and secured with hot glue.

Then, I filled in with red ranunculus of varying sizes. You can complete this step with any coordinating focal florals you have on hand.

3. Include greenery scraps

For visual interest, I use at least three types of greenery in my designs. Start with small clippings of cedar, hot gluing them evenly throughout the arrangement.

If the stems are too short, add florist picks or steel picks for length.

Then, repeat this with Norfolk pine and Fraser fir scraps.

4. Use holiday extras

To add a pinecone to your design, use a piece of florist wire to wrap around the base of the pinecone. Twist the ends for a thicker stem, then trim, leaving 1-2 inches of wire. Add a steel or wooden pick to the wire, then secure it to the side of your design.

For more holiday fun, hot glue small clippings of holly greenery, red winter berries, and gold glittery leaves throughout the arrangement.

5. Finish your Christmas arrangement using scraps

To finish your design, check your shape and fill in with additional scraps. If you see any remaining foam, hot glue scrap leaves to disguise it.

And with that, your holiday arrangement is complete!
