6 Ways to Simplify Christmas Designs (Without Sacrificing Style)

Sharing is caring!

The holidays are busy enough without spending hours second-guessing every ribbon or overloading your cart with supplies you may not even use. The truth is, simple designs can be just as beautiful, polished, and profitable as over-the-top creations—sometimes even more so.

6 Ways to Simplify Christmas Designs

Here are six of my favorite ways to simplify your Christmas designs this season:

1. Start with a Pre-Made Base

Instead of starting from scratch, grab a base that already has some greenery, berries, or even light flocking. It gives you a head start and instantly cuts your design time in half.

2. Cut Up Garlands for Ready-Made Elements

Mixed garlands are gold. With greenery, berries, and pinecones already paired together, you can cut them apart and use the pieces across multiple wreaths, swags, or lantern toppers. It’s budget-friendly and cohesive.

3. Use Picks That Do the Work for You

Choose picks that already combine a focal flower, filler flowers, and greenery. Instead of layering three or four separate stems, one pick can give you a balanced, professional look in seconds.

4. Stick to a “7 Items or Less” Rule

Challenge yourself to keep designs simple: maybe 2 ribbons, 4 sprays, and 1 pick. This not only reduces cost but also speeds up the process and removes the stress of overthinking.

5. Scale Down the Size

Not every wreath has to be a 24-inch showstopper. Smaller grapevine wreaths, 16-inch bases, or compact arrangements can still have big impact—while being faster to make and easier for customers to buy.

6. Enhance Figurines or Signs

Already have a cute Christmas sign or figurine? Build your design around it. Adding a bow, a few coordinating sprays, and greenery can transform something simple into a festive statement piece.

Why Simple Designs Works

Simplifying your designs saves you time, money, and stress—but it also gives you products at a price point more shoppers are looking for right now. And when you’re making multiples for platforms like Etsy, quick designs are key to showing up in search and making steady sales.
That’s exactly why I created the

Christmas Designs Made Simple Workshop happening September 25–27.

In just 3 days, we’ll focus on quick, budget-friendly Christmas projects you can make in minutes, not hours. You’ll walk away with designs that are polished, gift-ready, and profitable.
