How to make a fall magnolia wreath
1. Tie your bow
The first step in creating this yellow fall wreath is to tie the statement bow. I did this ahead of time, though you can use this tutorial for assistance.
These are the measurements I used:
- 8” loops of 4” ribbon (two loops)
- 7” loops of 2 ½” ribbon (three loops)
- 5” loops of 1 ½” ribbon (three loops)
- 3” loop of 4” ribbon (one center loop)
Secure the center of your bow with florist wire, then use the ends to secure it to the side of your wreath base.
2. Add magnolia leaf sprays
To establish our form, glue two magnolia leaf sprays behind the bow, one at the top and one at the bottom. They should bend slightly in the direction of the wreath.
3. Build shape with greenery
Next, we’ll build out our shape using mixed greenery. Start with pine, adding the small clippings closer to the bow and long pieces near the outer edge. Secure each with hot glue.
Next, add airy maidenhair fern for texture. Use wooden floral picks or steel picks as needed.
4. Add magnolia flowers
For focal florals, add two large magnolia blooms to your base, keeping close to the bow. Secure one on top of the bow and one on the bottom using hot glue.
5. Add extras to your fall magnolia wreath
To make this wreath look extra special, we’re going to fill it with lots of fall extras.
Start with clippings of brown leaves, evenly distributing them to fill in holes. Then, add yellow floral sprays throughout the base, spreading out the elements for a fuller effect.
Include pieces of brown fall fern, focusing on the outer edge of your form. Also, add small clippings of yellow florals and greenery near the center of the form, gluing in between bow loops.
For the finishing touches, add another yellow ribbon wreath for length and color. Then, hot glue a few small pinecones into your bow loops for a hidden delight.
And with a final fluff, your yellow fall magnolia wreath is complete!
