How to make a Christmas bow with wired ribbon
1. Hand-tie a one-ribbon Christmas bow with wired ribbon
Begin with your choice of wired ribbon.
Measure a long streamer (you can trim it as needed), then pinch and pleat. Next, measure 10” for a 5” loop, pinch, pleat, and twist to bring the good side of the ribbon to face forward.
Hold your bow in your non-dominant hand between your thumb and pointer finger, using your dominant hand to form your loops.
Repeat this process for a total of 10 loops, alternating the loops on either side of your hand. As you work, your loops will move closer to your palm. Trim your streamer.
To tie, turn your hand over, lift your pointer finger, slip the florist wire under, and rotate your wrist. Shimmy the wire so that it’s directly in the centre.
Pinch, shape, and move the loops until you’re happy. Turn the bow over and twist off the center, pulling the bow towards your stomach and the wire away.
With these basics, you’re ready to make endless holiday bows with wired ribbon!
2. Hand tie a two-ribbon bow
For a two-ribbon bow, we’ll repeat the steps from the first tutorial with one ribbon, forming a total of three loops.
Holding this base in your hand, add your second ribbon on top, repeating these steps for three loops.
Add a small loop of the first ribbon to the centre of your bow, shimmy your loops to mix up the patterns, and secure the center.
3. Hand tie a three-ribbon bow
Repeat the steps above. Then, for your third ribbon, add a smaller center loop, as well as extra streamers to the back, before securing the center.
4. One-ribbon bow with EZ Bow Maker
Put your ribbon roll on one side of the EZ bow maker, feeding the ribbon vertically through the two dowels on the other end; these will act like your thumb and pointer finger.
Measure a 12” streamer, twist, then measure a 6” loop, putting the ribbon vertically through the two dowels and twisting towards you. Continue making loops on alternate sides of the dowels. Repeat for a total of 8 loops, then trim your streamer.
Pull the bow out, holding the center. Adjust your loops and secure with florist wire.
5. Three-ribbon bow with EZ Bow Maker
Use the same steps as above, layering ribbon varieties as you desire.
