How to Add Ribbon Streamers to Deco Mesh Wreaths
I am a ribbon addict and ribbon is an inexpensive way to add lots of texture, color and interest to Deco Mesh Wreaths. Here is my quick tutorial on how to add ribbon to Deco Mesh Wreaths and Garlands.
[Tweet “How to Add Ribbon Streamers to Deco Mesh Wreaths”]
I like to use two widths of ribbon, a 2.5″ and a 1.5″, in two different styles of each size. For example two styles in the 2.5″ width and two styles in the 1.5″ width. I make sure the ribbon coordinates with the deco mesh used in the wreath. I cut my ribbon streamers 2-3″ longer than the loops used for my wreath. So if I made my deco mesh loops 10″ long on my wreaths, I would use 12-13″ long streamers. Make sense?
To attach the streamers, I pair up one 2.5″ width with one 1.5″ width, pinch them in the middle and twist them into a twist tie. Then on the twist tie beside it, I pair up the other 2.5″ and 1.5″ ribbon streamers; so that these pairs alternate around the wreath.
Spread the ribbons out to form an X shape. But I don’t pull them our tightly into an X, but make sure they have some curve and movement.
I only used wired ribbon so that the customer can reshape the ribbon streamers when needed, which comes in handy on those windy days.
If for some reason, there is an odd number of twist ties, I don’t let that stress me. There will just be two styles right beside each other, no one will be able to tell once all the decorations are on.

Love your wreaths, Thanks for sharing!!!
Hi Julie, I just watched your tutorial on adding ribbon to mesh wreaths & it looks like the mesh is the 12″ mesh cut into curls. Is that how you did the mesh on this wreath & if so how many did you cut?
Thank,
Sherry
No Sherry, I use the new curly loop method I explained in my ebook, Learn Deco Mesh Wreath Design. Did you purchase that yet?
Can you tell me where you get your twist ties? I can’t find them anywhere so I use pipe cleaners. Your twist ties make it so much prettier. Thanks
Carol,
The twist ties come already attached to the wreath. Go to trendytree.com and in their search box type wreath form and you will see all the colors of wreaths they have to offer.
Julie
Target also sells the fancy ties that are found on work wreaths
I just made my first deco mesh wreath taking pointers from a few how this online… First off.. let me say the mesh I expensive! So to save a few bucks in other areas, I would recommend going to a dollar tree for the wreath form.. can’t beat a dollar!! I also got some ribbon there..and Instead of pipe cleaners, I bought a spool of floral wire.. and it worked perfectly! All 3 can be found at the dollar tree.
Congrats on your first wreath! That’s great!!! I teach how to make quality pieces and if you are making for your home, by all means, do what you want in order to save money and find items that fit your color theme.
Julie!
Your Awesome!! Thank you so much for sharing…it was one thing I was not quite sure about and so glad you took the time to make this video!
Great tutorial! Your wreaths are so beautiful. I always look forward to your videos. Thanks for sharing.
Do you use wire ribbon? I tried with regular ribbon and it didn’t look right 🙁
Oh yes, always wired.
I would love the video, please.

Love your work!! Where do you find your variety of ribbon? I love the patterns you use! I have trouble finding cute prints in both sizes. Any help is appreciated! Thanks!
Love your wreaths I’ve learned a lot watching your tutorials and I plan to buy your ebook soon Thank You so much & God bless you for sharing !
Hi Julie,
I am a new member to your fan club. You are one talented wreather! Simple question. The 20′ work wreath form makes a 24″ finished wreath…correct?
Depends on the size of your loops. Mine typically make a 20-22 inch wreath.
Beautiful
Hi Juli, thank you for your videos. You always do such a great job with your explanation and every time I watch it I pick up something new that I didn’t catch the last time! I read all the comments and I too am having a very difficult time finding ribbon as pretty as yours. Could you please give me and idea of where you buy them. I have looked at trendy tree and mardi gras and also creative gift packaging to no avail. I have purchased your ebooks and I have purchased Nancy Alexander’s vendor list so if you will just help me it would be gratefully appreciated. Thank you and keep making those beautiful wreaths!!!
Did you see the list of suppliers in the ebook forum Lydianne? If you can’t find ribbon you will need to purchase online. Email me and I will help you further.
Hi Julie,
I found your E-Book, designs, tutorials, to be the best. As a new comer to making deco mesh wreaths your suggestions and detailed information on how to’s has helped me in making my wreaths more professional looking.
I am interested in learning how to make a swag for a lantern. i’ve seen them on Etsy and cannot figure out how to put it all together. Please let me know if there is a youtube video on how to.
thanks.
Working on a lantern swag video Ann, hopefully in the next few weeks.
Hi Julie,
I’ve been following you for several years and you seem to get better each time.
I just wanted to say a BIG THANK YOU for sharing you gift of wreath making with so many of us. It is not often that you come across an individual willing to share what they have with others so freely and continue to do so with such care. I pray continued blessings for your business and wish you and your family all the best life has to offer.
Oh Wow! Ann, thank you so very much! You don’t know how badly I needed these words today. I will definitely accept your prayers too. Have a very blessed day!
I have tried to get the free tutorial for the deco mesh wreath and it will not go through to get it.
Check your spam folder, you have to click the link in the email to confirm your joining my email. I just checked & you haven’t done that step yet. Fill out the form again to have the confirmation email resent if needed.
For this particular wreath – what is the size of the wreath frame? Thanks!
This wreath is using a 24″ work wreath form.
your wreaths are beautiful, I purchased the e book looking forward to getting started
What has happened to the You Tube video that shows how to make the pink wreath in the adding ribbons video? I loved the video and used it to refresh my memory often of how you make this beautiful wreath.
Teresa, that is a private video link available to my ebook customers. Have you purchased my ebook? If so, email me and I will be happy to give you the link again.
Ah! The video is missing. I was so much interested in making a wreath. I already bought the meshes, ribbons etc. and was hoping to get a tutorial so that I can make one.
Thanks Anyways.
I just checked and the video is displaying. Perhaps you need to update your flash player?
I have been trying to find the video where you make a curly mesh wreath using the loop and poof method together. You used the larger mesh, layered 3 colors together, wrapped them around a spool, and cut them in 9 pieces. You then tied the pieces back to back by overlapping the curly ends. Love this method!!
Hey Sheree, this video comes with my ebook purchase. It would have been in the very first email sent after joining my ebook mailing list. I will send you the link again.
Julie
The curly loop method has definitely gotten me very very interested in deco mesh wreaths!! Looking forward to getting your book 😀
Hi I made my first wreath today from one of your tutorials. Thank you so much. I am going to try to attach a picture of it and if you can give me any ideas as to what else to add I would truly appreciate it
I really like the way you explained how to do this. Your video is really clear. Thank you ?
I just made a deco mesh wreath for my mom. It’s rather large (28″x 28″) I need to ship it to her, but do not know the best way to do that so I do not ruin it. Where would I get a box to fit this odd size and what do you recommend for packaging materials to protect it?
Thanks!
That is a very large wreath to ship. I try to keep my in the 20-24″ range and still pay approximately $18-$20. You can find boxes at Staples.com and here is a video on how to package your wreath for shipping https://southerncharmwreaths.com/blog/how-to-box-a-wreath-for-shipping/
Love watching and learning about these wreaths. I have been making these for my self and family but I haven’t sold any yet. I wanted to see how you added the ribbons to the mesh wreath. I have been adding some ribbon to mine, but I wanted to see how you did yours. Your wreaths are very beautiful and you do such great work on your wreaths. There’s always room for improvement and you have helped me a great deal by watching your videos. Thank you so much and keep up the good work. God bless.
There’s always room for improvement and that is why I wanted to see your videos. You do such great work. I have been adding ribbon to my wreaths, but I needed to learn how you do it. Thanks so much. I have learned a great deal and I appreciate it very much. God bless and keep up the good work.
Thank you for your kind words Gadys! Have a blessed day!
I know how to make wreaths and add ribbon and embellishments. Is your ebook designed for beginners as well as seasoned wreath makers? Will I learn additional tips from your ebook? Thanks for the info.
The ebook (written part) is made for beginners new to making deco mesh wreaths. However, I have added bonuses and add ons for a more advanced wreath maker in the form of written and video wreath recipes. Anytime I add anything new to the ebook bundle package, you are emailed a link to the new tutorial, which is included in the price.
Thank you for sharing your talent! I love all your tutorials. You do such an amazing job. Thank you so much. Blessings!
Thank you for following!!
Thank you for all of your videos and tutorials that you freely share. I found you about a month ago, and I love your teaching. I have a question that you may or may not be able to answer due to it being in you ebook. I saw in a couple of your videos that you always make a hanger for your wreaths. I have doubled the 26 gauge floral wire for the hanger on mine. It doesn’t seem sturdy enough. I was wondering if you use a zip tie or something else. Thanks.
I use rustic wire or pipe cleaner.
How much is your ebook?
