How to make a summer hydrangea wreath

1. Prepare your base

Begin by attaching a square of styrofoam to one side of your wreath. Use hot glue and a zip tie to secure it. Then, glue a bit of green moss on top for camouflage.

2. Add your bow

Next, we’re going to add our multi-ribbon bow! To make it, I tied three 5” loops of peach gingham ribbon along with three 5” loops of plain peach ribbon.

For help with this step, check out this multi-ribbon bow tutorial

Use florist wire to attach the bow over your styrofoam, weaving the wire through the grapevine.

3. Build your greenery foundation

Now, we’ll build a foundation with greenery. I like to mix a range of leaf shapes and colors for visual interest. I also divide my greenery for more design control.

Begin placing wide magnolia leaves around your bow, hot gluing them into the styrofoam.

Then, use pistacia to extend your greenery and wreath shape, securing with hot glue. Use steel picks as necessary for more length.

4. Add snowball hydrangea

Begin adding your peach snowball hydrangeas, starting with the larger flower heads closer to the bow. Work your way out, securing each bloom with hot glue.

Aim for an even integration throughout the greenery foundation, simulating natural growth.

5. Include filler

To fill in holes, add small clippings of Queen Anne’s lace. This white floral will help draw the eye.

Then, add small clippings of mini cup leaf around your bow and throughout your base for more texture.

Finally, hot glue small pieces of fern throughout the design to break up your greenery.

6. Finish your summer hydrangea wreath

Add one gingham ribbon streamer and one plain peach ribbon, hanging below your established bow. Curl a few streamer ends for a sweet touch.

Flip your wreath over and cover your mechanics with a couple of large magnolia leaves, using hot glue to secure them.

Attach your wreath hanger, fluff your elements, and your summer snowball wreath is ready to display!
