If you’re new to deco mesh, today’s design is for you!
Learn how to create this festive 4th of July wreath, complete with stars, stripes, and a classic American color palette.
For this design, we’ll use the “pouf method,” which is the easiest way to incorporate deco mesh (in my humble opinion).

How to make a simple patriotic deco mesh wreath
1. Prep your ribbons
First up, we’re going to prepare our patriotic ribbons.
Cut 9” lengths of all four ribbon varieties. Then, dovetail the ends. You’ll need eighteen cuts of each ribbon type.
2. Add your deco mesh
Next, the deco mesh!
Take your deco mesh roll and fold over 3 inches, gathering it in your fist.
Drop the roll to the floor, then take this gathered end and twist it between two pine ties on the top layer of your wreath. Zip tie this end.
Next, measure out a 10” pouf, pinching and twisting into the next pine tie. Continue working all the way around the wreath form.
With the top layer done, drop to the bottom layer and repeat this pattern.
Finally, add a third row of deco mesh poufs for extra fullness. You can either add this layer to the bottom level or zig-zag poufs between the bottom and top.
Zip tie the end of your deco mesh to secure it, then trim the zip tie ends.
3. Add ribbon decals
Next, make two pairings of your ribbon patterns, each with one 1 ½” ribbon and one 2 ½” ribbon. Lay the smaller ribbons on top of the larger ribbons.
Begin working on the top level of your wreath form.
Take your first ribbon pairing, pinch the centre, and twist it into a pine needle tie. Separate the ribbons to form an “x.”
Continue working around your wreath form, alternating ribbon patterns as you go. Then, repeat these steps on the bottom level of your wreath form.
4. Finish your patriotic deco mesh wreath
To finish this 4th of July wreath, make sure that all of your ribbons are facing forward with their patterns proudly on display.
Trim any long ribbons and readjust ribbon tails for an even display of pattern and color.
Lastly, you can trim your pine twist ties if you prefer. Personally, I like what they add to the design.
And with a final fluff, your patriotic deco mesh wreath is complete!
