How to make a silk flower lantern swag arrangement
1. Create your bottom spray
For our bottom bundle, use a white floral spray as your base. Add bits of straw flower, Queen Anne’s lace, and coordinating greenery for a natural look.
Once you’re happy, use a zip tie to secure your top bundle.
2. Create your top spray
We’re going to repeat these same steps for our top spray, this time using shorter stems for a smaller bundle.
Once both bundles are done, line them up on your table with the stems facing each other. Leave about a hand’s width between the bundles, then zip tie them together.
3. Tie a coordinating bow
Next, we’re going to tie a bow with coordinating green and white ribbons.
Measure a long tail of a 2 ½” ribbon, pinch, and measure 12” for a 6” loop. Pinch, pleat, twist, and repeat for a total of two loops. Then, trim your streamer.
Repeat these steps with a second type of 2 ½” ribbon, working on top of your base.
Repeat with a ½” ribbon, this time measuring 5” loops.
For the final ribbon, choose a ⅞” design and add one 5” loop. Add an extra streamer of this ribbon to the back of your bow.
Secure the bow with florist wire and attach to the centre of your hand-tied swag.
4. Clean up your silk flower swag
For a clean finish, trim zip tie ends and long stems at the back of the swag; these would weigh the design down.
Cover the back of your zip tie using a spare leaf and hot glue.
5. Attach your lantern swag
Next, wrap a piece of rustic wire around the centre of the swag, hiding it underneath your elements. Twist a couple of times at the back to secure it.
You can use your rustic wire ends to attach to the chimney or handle of the lantern. From here, continue to shape your design, fluff elements, and dovetail streamer ends.
For the finishing touch to your lantern flowers, hot glue bits of fern behind your bow, and take care not to glue them onto the lantern. This will make the swag look like one coherent design rather than two different parts.
And with that, your faux flower lantern swag is ready to enjoy!
