Potted artificial outdoor plants
Do you have some seriously neglected outdoor planters?
Guilty!
Outdoor plants can be difficult to keep up with, especially during the cold winter months. That’s why I love displaying fake greenery in outdoor pots.
Today’s design is crafted using tons of greenery “planted” in small bundles that look like they’re growing straight from the dirt!
Best of all, this natural beauty doesn’t require any watering or maintenance. Simply stick stems in the existing dirt and enjoy an extra touch of green.

How to make potted artificial outdoor plants
1. Establish your base with faux greenery
The first step in planting fake greenery in outdoor pots is to establish the base.
Add two stems of long needle pine with pine cones to the planter, sticking stems straight into the dirt.
Then, add a few stems of balsam pine, building out the base. Remember to fluff the elements as you go.
2. Add dimension with light green cedar
For lightness, add stems of light green cedar, evenly dispersing through the base.
This step will add dimension and draw the eye.
3. Fill in with textured greenery
Complete the base with stems of mixed greenery spray for texture and fullness.
Then, add a berry cedar bush to the center of the planter. This will give the realistic effect of plants sprouting from the planter.
4. Drape greenery garlands
For a full design, add a juniper garland to the planter. Trail the garland down the side of the planter, giving life and visual interest to the display.
Trim the garland as you go, perfecting the shape to your artistic tastes.
Repeat this process with a pine garland adorned with small pinecones. Divide the garland and drape them down the sides.
5. Finish your artificial outdoor plants
To finish your gorgeous outdoor planter, sprinkle clippings of lamb’s ear throughout the established base. This will give the design additional lightness and an interesting texture.
Finally, add a few more clippings of light green cedar as needed, aiming for an even wash of color throughout the planter.
And with that, you’re equipped to design any number of potted artificial outdoor plants!
Aim to keep your creation dry, storing it under a covered porch or overhang for long-lasting enjoyment.
