How to make a ribbon wreath hanger
1. Measure the ribbon hanger
First, place your completed wreath on your work table.
Take your focal ribbon and wrap it around the top of the wreath. Decide how far down you’d like the wreath to hang, leaving more length for a further drop.
Leave 5” at the ends for ribbon tails, then trim.
2. Secure the wire hanger
Next, cut a piece of rustic wire and fold it in half to make a loop; this will be your hook.
Pinch and pleat your ribbon hanger a few inches from the top. Then, lay your wire hook at the back of the ribbon, continuing to hold the ribbon pleat.
Use a clear zip tie to secure the wire to the ribbon and trim the zip tie ends.
Separate your ribbon tails at the top of the hanger to reveal your wire hook. Twist the ribbon tails to secure their placement.
Finally, wrap the rustic wire ends around the ribbon pleat to give it extra security. Finish by trimming the wire ends.
3. Cover the wire
To tidy up your design, take a scrap of a second ribbon variety, removing the wire from the ribbon.
Fold your ribbon scrap into thirds, using a bit of hot glue to secure the folds.
Wrap your prepared scrap around the zip tie and rustic wire, using hot glue to secure the placement.
4. Finish your ribbon wreath hanger
For the finishing touches to your wreath hanger, trim the ribbon tails. Choose between your preference of dovetailing or an angle cut.
Then, I recommend hanging your wreath to ensure your hook is functional. From this position, you can also adjust where your hanger holds the wreath.
Adjust as needed for a balanced design. And with that, you’re ready to add lovely ribbon hangers to all of your wreath designs!
