DIY fall greenery wreath

I’m seeing autumn greenery wreaths everywhere right now! And today, Coach Laurie Anne is sharing how to make this trending design on your own.

This fall wreath with greenery is made with very minimal elements but gives MAJOR impact on the front door. It’s made of layers upon layers of fall fern, with round bits of lemon leaf peaking through.

So grab a few bushels of greenery and let’s get started!

Supplies for this project

You’ll need:

  • 24” Oval grapevine wreath
  • Lemon leaf
  • Green fern with orange tips
  • 3 coordinating fall ribbons
  • Hot glue
  • Wire cutters
  • Florist wire

How to make a fall greenery wreath

1. Build your base with greenery

The first step is to build your base with greenery. You don’t want any of the grapevine showing through this design.

Start with lemon leaf, trimming pieces and working along the outer and inner edges of the wreath in a zig-zag pattern.

Secure everything with hot glue and use steel picks or wooden floral picks for small stems.

2. Add fall greenery

Next up – the fall greenery!

Add fall fern in small clippings around the outer and inner edges of the wreath. It should appear as if it’s falling down, working counterclockwise on the left and clockwise on the right.

Secure everything with hot glue, shaping and trimming as you go.

Then, take a full bush of fall fern and secure it to the bottom center of the wreath. There will be two holes on either side. Fill them with one fall fern bush on either side.

3. Fill in holes

Holes in a wreath design are any spots where there isn’t any color.

In this case, fill in any holes with remaining clippings of fall fern. Remember – the fuller the wreath, the prettier when it comes to this design.

4. Create your bow

Finish your wreath with a gorgeous hand-tied bow.

Choose three coordinating fall ribbons. I chose a ribbon with an orange and beige pattern, along with a coordinating orange ribbon and beige ribbon.

If you need more help with this step, learn how to choose coordinating ribbons here. And you can also find an in-depth bow-making lesson here.

For this fall greenery wreath, we’re going to create 2 loops of each ribbon, securing the center with florist wire.

Next, add the bow to the top center of your wreath, sticking the wire ends through to the back and twisting to secure. From there, adjust your ribbon tails, trimming, and dovetailing ends to your liking.

And there you have it – a gorgeous fall wreath with greenery!
