How to make a deco mesh patriotic wreath

1. Prep your materials

Your first step is to wrap the wreath with 10” poofs of deco mesh in three layers. If you haven’t done this before, check out this post for an easy tutorial.

Then, pre-cut 12” streamers of your ribbon. Cut 9 streamers for each type of ribbon.

2. Attach your sign

To attach your sign, punch a hole in all four corners. Thread white florist wire through each hole and wrap the ends around the inner ring of the wreath.

Ensure the sign is centered before securing tightly and trimming the ends.

3. Create your bows

First, measure an 8” streamer of a 1 ½” patriotic ribbon (I used red, white, and blue stripes), pinch, and pleat. Next, measure 12” for a 6” loop, pinch, pleat, and twist. Repeat for a total of 5 loops.

Then, add a final 4” loop. Secure the center with florist wire and attach it to the top left corner of your wreath.

Repeat these steps for a second bow, this time creating just 2 loops. Attach to the bottom left corner of your sign.

Make a final bow with two loops and attach to the bottom right-hand corner of the sign.

4. Add ribbon details

Next, take a new patriotic ribbon (I used red and white stars). Measure a 6” streamer, pinch it, and secure it between two needles at the top center of your wreath.

Work clockwise, making poofs and securing between pine ties. Repeat for a total of 3 loops, then trim the end.

Next, start at your uppermost bow and work counter-clockwise, securing two poofs.

Then, add a single poof at the bottom of your wreath.

Finish your ribbon details with your pre-cut ribbon streamers, twisting throughout the pine ties in alternating colors for an even look. Check out this project for an in-depth tutorial.

5. Finish with greenery and florals

Finish your deco mesh wreath with cuts of mixed greenery, hot gluing pieces around the outer edge of your wreath, then the inner ring surrounding your sign.

Then, separate your patriotic florals into smaller pieces, hot gluing evenly throughout your wreath.

Finally, finish your design with a few star picks for a gorgeous bit of color!
